The Straub GD-460 was designed by master craftsman Franz Straub for Doc Severinsen, who imported these from Germany as his original Destino. Each horn takes Franz about a week to build. He starts with German sheet brass, meticulously forming the leadpipe, bell, and tubing by hand. Then he precision fits a legendary Bauerfiend value block. It is finished in lustrous gold plate. The result is an engineering marvel. Responsive and agile, it plays immaculately in tune throughout all registers, slotting cleanly and accurately. It can purr sweetly when played softly, yet sizzle with power when pushed hard. A true work of art, it is an achievement of both breathtaking beauty and spectacular performance.
